Tufnol Phenolic Cotton
TUFNOL phenolic cotton materials are the workhorse grades for general mechanical applications. They are strong and tough with very good wear resistance and they are easy to machine into finished components. They are available with cotton fabric reinforcements ranging from fine weave to coarse. In general, the medium to coarse weave grades are used for larger and more rugged components requiring good all round strength and toughness. The finer are chosen for their superior finish, higher dimensional stability and improved strength in thin sections.
The electrical properties also tend to be higher in the finer grades but the TUFNOL range includes a medium fabric weave with enhanced electrical properties, suitable for electrical applications with additional mechanical requirements.
Another special TUFNOL grade "Bear Brand TUFNOL" was specially developed for use as a bearing material. It has enhanced wearing properties and dimensional stability and gives excellent performance in a multitude of bearing applications using water as a lubricant or more conventional oils or greases.
Carp Brand
Fine weave high quality fabric grade. Excellent mechanical strength, low water absorption and good electrical properties.
Whale Brand
Medium weave general purpose grade. Robust and versatile with good electrical and mechanical strength.
Bear Brand
Specially developed for use as a bearing material with water and other lubricants. Medium weave with better electrical properties and lower water absorption than Whale Brand.
Crow Brand
Coarse weave fabric grade giving high impact strength. Good wear characteristics Tough and rugged.
